Clipper Boardinghouse Berlin Gendarmen is a four-star apartment hotel in Berlin's Mitte district, a short walk from Gendarmenmarkt and Friedrichstrasse. Its 59 apartments range from 26 to 70 square metres and sleep up to four, each with a kitchenette, refrigerator, free WiFi and a sitting area; some have balconies or conservatories. Self-parking, laundry and concierge services are available, pets are welcome, and the building is smoke-free. Rates start around $120 a night. It suits couples, families and longer-stay travellers who want apartment-style accommodation rather than a conventional hotel room. One drawback noted by guests is that some apartments look out on an unattractive view, so curtains may stay closed.
