Neighbourgood Sutter Mansion, also known as the Payne Mansion, is a boutique hotel set in a Victorian mansion built in 1881 in San Francisco's Cathedral Hill/Lower Pacific Heights neighbourhood. One of the few large buildings to survive the 1906 earthquake, it retains original features including cedar woodwork, stained glass and gilded ceilings. The 12 individually furnished rooms come with air-conditioning, private bathrooms with walk-in showers, safes, free WiFi and flat-screen TVs, and guests also get a terrace, 24-hour gym, business centre and a lobby fireplace. It suits travellers who like character properties in a quieter residential area, though it sits away from the main downtown hotel strip.
